“Losing your Soulmate and Best Friend is a very traumatic time in your life even if you know their illness is terminal.”

The loss of a loved one to a long-term illness can have a profound impact and that has been compounded this year – from limits on funerals to just not being able to give someone a hug. South Bucks Hospice Individual and Family Support service has developed a new course to help people navigate the storm of bereavement.

After The Storm is a six-week course that supports people who have been recently bereaved as they come to terms with their grief and begin to look at life after loss. The course started in June and participants were guided by one of our experienced counsellors; sharing their experiences in a safe environment, examining the importance of community and exploring what life might look like ‘on the shore line’.

As well as the course content, participants have formed bonds and relationships that will help them address some of the loneliness associated with their loss, and made the first steps on their journey of life after loss. Further After The Storm courses are taking place in January and June 2022. Further information is available by emailing counselling@sbhospice.org.uk.
