Nilakshi Joshi is the Lead Nurse for the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at Hillingdon Hospital, where she has worked since 2001. Starting as a staff nurse, she has dedicated over two decades to caring for premature and sick babies.
Nilakshi leads the specialised care unit for babies born from 27 weeks onwards. It houses 18 cots, two rooms for parents to stay overnight, and a 6-bed Transitional Care Unit.
Nilakshi understands the overwhelming emotions parents face when their baby is born early or unwell. Her team of doctors, nurses, and healthcare assistants are committed to supporting families during these difficult times. However, Nilakshi recognises that the unit’s outdated and cramped conditions add unnecessary stress.
Since becoming Lead Nurse in 2022, Nilakshi has focused on improving these conditions. Her vision is to create a more welcoming, home-like environment for families and a restful space for staff to recharge during breaks. She is determined to ensure that both parents and staff feel supported and comfortable in the unit.
