Katie shared her experience of receiving support from the Rennie Grove Hospice at Home team during her mum’s illness.

Katie said, “In September 2019, my mum was diagnosed with cancer during a holiday. By June 2020, her health had deteriorated significantly, prompting us to consider our options. We knew that if she was admitted to a hospital or hospice, there would be tight visiting restrictions in place (due to the Covid-19 pandemic) that would mean only my dad could visit her. I couldn’t imagine how it would have been for Dad if he had to do that all alone without any of us around. So, we were very relieved to be referred to Rennie Grove for Hospice at Home support.

“I was staying with them for longer periods to help my dad care for my mum so I saw first-hand what an amazing job the nurses did. They visited frequently and treated both mum, and the whole family, with genuine kindness and compassion.

“As things progressed, they were very honest with us about what would come next and helped us all to navigate what was a totally new experience for us.

“I can’t imagine how we could have got through those last few weeks and months without the knowledgeable, kind and caring support of the Rennie Grove Hospice at Home team.”

Money raised from The Hospice Lottery helps Rennie Grove Hospice fund services that provide essential care for those in need.
