West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust installed a new X-Ray room in Watford General Hospital’s A&E department, and while the room is very modern the new, large equipment means it sometimes feels intimidating to patients. Raise funded two bubble machines to help provide a calming distraction for patients of all ages.
Sharon Smith, who works in the A&E X-Ray department, said: “We have a range of patients coming to our department, from the very young to the very elderly, as well as a lot of different patients with complex needs such as learning or mental health difficulties.
“It is wonderful, modern equipment. However, as good the equipment is, it can look a bit frightening if you’re not used to it. The bubble tube machine benefits all our patients as it makes the space calm, brighter and a bit less scary.
“The bubble tubes really help patients stay calm and feel safe in the X-Ray room while clinical staff are doing their X-Rays. The tubes provide a welcome distraction as the changing light gives a calming atmosphere.”
“Thanks to Raise, all our patients can now enjoy the relaxing environment the bubble tubes provide.”
