In 2016, at 49, Caroline Everitt was diagnosed with breast cancer, a shock to her family. After chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she was declared cancer-free.
However, by 2019, cancer had metastasised to her liver, lungs, spine, brain, head, and jaw. Despite this, Caroline stayed. In 2020, some tumours cleared, but the pandemic delayed her treatments. By 2022, the cancer returned to her brain, worsening her prognosis.
Caroline’s family received crucial support from Rennie Grove Hospice Care, whose nurses provided essential care as her health declined. Chris, her son, praised the hospice staff for their compassion and support, noting their efforts to help Caroline remain independent and comfortable. The hospice’s Rapid Personalised Care Service provided daily visits that greatly eased the family’s burden.
Caroline passed away on 6 October 2023, days before Chris’s 30th birthday. Inspired by the care his mother received, Chris fundraised for Rennie Grove Hospice Care by participating in the National Three Peaks Challenge in July 2024. His goal is to ensure other families receive similar support.
