“These chairs will help them feel safe, supported and comfortable during what can be a difficult time”

The income raised from players of The Hospice Lottery has helped East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity purchase new chairs for patients having treatment for cancer at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

The chairs are specially designed for comfort and support during the often-lengthy treatment sessions. The chairs can be reclined allowing patients to have their legs elevated and designed to help avoid concentrated pressure on body areas, which can cause reduced blood flow and pressure injuries.

Cancer treatment such as chemotherapy often takes place over multiple sessions and each session can last several hours so it is vital that patients feel comfortable and as relaxed as they can be during these times.  Patients can often feel quite poorly as they go through treatment and may also experience emotional upset.

Having treatment for cancer is always going to bring with it physical and emotional distress but with the charity funding enhancements such as the new chairs, it can make things that much easier for patients.
