Carol’s story
For Carol Weston, Matron at Michael Sobell House, hospice care is about creating comfort, dignity and connection at some of life’s most difficult moments.
Carol began her journey as a volunteer in 1999 and now leads the inpatient unit team, supporting patients and families with specialist palliative and end of life care. Michael Sobell House has been at the heart of the community since 1977 and today provides 24-hour care from a dedicated multidisciplinary team, with every aspect shaped around what matters most to each individual.
“Every person who comes to us is different,” Carol explains. “Our role is to listen, understand what matters to them, and create a space where they feel safe, supported and cared for.”
Since the merger of Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell Hospice in 2023, services have become more joined up, bringing together expertise to improve care for local people.
Support from players of The Hospice Lottery Partnership helps make this possible, funding improvements to the environment, equipment and services patients rely on.
Looking ahead, the hospice will also bring together Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell Hospice lottery supporter accounts into one unified system, reflecting this closer partnership and making it easier for supporters to continue backing the care provided.
“Every bit of support helps us be there when it matters most,” says Carol.
