Patients, staff and guests gathered in the Jubilee Rehabilitation Garden’s formal opening ceremony on 1 July 2025.
The garden, created on a patch of derelict land, is the work of Designer Tom Stuart-Smith, assisted by a team of Trust volunteers who helped with the planting and keeping it looking wonderful. The idea emerged when a former patient was inspired to ask if the dilapidated space could be refurbished. Trust volunteers, staff, charity, and contractors helped to make it a reality in just over 18 months, and it is already a well-loved and well-used spot for patients and families.
A patient shared, “It has made a huge difference for me, and I’m sure it will make a difference for many other people.” The garden has a shelter and heaters so it can be used all year round. It gives patients and their families the opportunity to escape the clinical wards, finding peace and comfort in nature.
Hillingdon Hospitals Charity funded the creation of the garden, which was made possible thanks to the generous support from The Hospice Lottery’s players. David Jenkins, Director of the Charity, shared, “This space is incredible, and I want to thank everyone who has made it possible.”
