After seven months in hospital, Sital wasn’t expected to live much longer. He’d suffered a stroke, and then an infection which led to his kidneys shutting down.

A heart failure nurse suggested hospice care, and Sital (aged 52) spent one month at The Hospice of St Francis before returning home to his wife and teenaged children. Sital explains, “At the Hospice, I was reborn. They took the water out of my lungs. I hadn’t eaten properly for six or seven months, but the food was absolutely first-class, and my appetite came back.

“The attitudes of the Hospice staff give you hope. The nurses inspired me. Working with the physio team made me stronger. At the Hospice, the care is provided with love which is second to none.”

Sital’s wife Nandini agrees, “Sital feels like he has a new life now. He’s getting stronger and better, and it’s from the Hospice’s positive atmosphere and top-quality care. The Hospice helped us arrange for 24-hour continuing care at home. That has made a major difference to all of our lives. We even went out for a meal as a family which we hadn’t managed to do for a year.”

Money raised from The Hospice Lottery helps The Hospice of St Francis fund services that provide essential care for those in need.
