Elizabeth was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. In 2019, Elizabeth’s Oncologist told the family that her diagnosis was now terminal, the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, spine, and liver.
Elizabeth’s daughter, Sarah told us, “Mum has far exceeded her prognosis of a year, and five years on, is still doing remarkably well. Of course, she has her ups and downs, sometimes I have to remind myself how poorly Mum actually is.”
Elizabeth attends the Day Hospice, where she has made some strong friendships, takes part in arts and craft activities, and has developed trust with the nurses and staff. She regularly joins in all the therapies including feet and hand massages, manicures, and guided meditation.
Sarah told us, “Mum loves attending the Day Hospice, each week she comes home with a huge smile on her face. The doctors and nurses are there to check on her condition, they spend time talking to her and listening to her concerns and offering reassurance. Mum regularly brings home wonderful art including mosaics, silk paintings and cards. She was reluctant at first to attend, but now she loves it so much I can’t get her out of the place.”
